Education

Physics section

The Physics section is focused on the education of future physics teachers at primary schools and experts for all related fields of science education. The education process follows the ECTS system and is divided onto 6-semester bachelor’s degree programme and following 4-semester master’s degree programme. The undergraduate courses consist of balanced combination of general course in physics accompanied by necessary mathematical background and common pedagogical basis. The graduate courses evolve gained knowledge withing advanced physical courses (quantum mechanics, solid state physics, electronics, astronomy) and the physics didactics. Throughout the programmes emphasis is placed on the correct sensing of physics around us, leading to correct interpretation of physical phenomena based on general physical laws.

In didactic disciplines the students gain practical experience based on practical teaching training and praxis. Their theoretical background is filled by the methods and procedures suitable for the teaching profession. Throughout the study, students have access to the experimental equipment of the department for the theses preparation, the library and the study room. The department has a part of its library collection related to physical literature, physical journals and scripts as well as physics-oriented education resources.

Physicists from DPChVE participate in the teaching of Science for students of primary school teaching and the teaching of sustainable development courses. For all students we prepare elective courses Environmental Hygiene, Methodology of Planning Science Activities, Experiments and Modern Measuring Methods.

Chemistry section

The Chemistry Section focuses on the education of future primary school chemistry teachers and professionals in related areas of science education. The educational process is conducted according to the ECTS system and it is divided into a six-semester Bachelor’s degree programme and a four-semester Master’s degree programme. The Bachelor’s degree consists of a balanced combination of a general chemistry course supplemented by the necessary mathematical, physical and pedagogical background. The Master’s degree enhances the knowledge via advanced chemistry courses (general chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and industrial chemistry), laboratory exercises and chemistry didactics lectures. Throughout the program, correct perception of chemistry and chemical phenomena around us and their correct interpretation based on general physical and chemical laws is emphasized.

In didactic disciplines, students gain theoretical knowledge of methods and procedures crucial for the teaching profession in addition to pedagogical experience through practical teaching. During the preparation of the final theses, students have access to the department’s laboratory equipment as well as to the library and study room. The Department has a library collection including chemical literature (books, textbooks, journals and electronic information resources).

The chemists of DPChVE are involved in teaching the other courses, such as Chemistry and Sustainable Development, Waste Management, Occupational Safety and Human Protection in Emergencies, Fundamentals of Health Sciences and Health Science, Medicinal Plants, Consumer and Cosmetic Chemistry, Merchandising, Clothing and Fundamentals of Textile Production, etc.

Vocational Education section

The section of Vocational Education focuses on the education of future Master of Vocational Training and Teachers of Specialized Subjects through structured study including pedagogical subjects within common basis as well as vocationally focused subjects of a wide range of vocational education fields with their didactic context. The study takes place in the form of bachelor´s degree programme and master´s degree programme as well as in the form of lifelong learning.  The content of the study program is current and based on the needs of secondary vocational schools. Formally, it is progressive with features of an effective distance learning type with partial use of e-learning. The field of study is closely related to educational institutions and school practice. Practical pedagogical activities of students (e.g. the practical part of subject didactics of relevant professional subjects and the range of internships determined by the curriculum) will take place mainly in contractual faculty schools.

Graduates of the study programmes will be fully qualified for the function of teacher of integrated subject practice and technology of the relevant field in new forms of modular arrangement of teaching at secondary vocational schools, integrated secondary schools and training centres, where this integration of teaching theory and practice in one subject is one of the main conditions for the gradual implementation of qualitative changes in the teaching process. This university study will enable graduates to have a wider job opportunity at the labour market and create conditions for increase the qualification of vocational education teachers.
